Whilst I take a trip down memory lane, I particularly remember using disposable cameras whenever I had a school outing or whenever I travelled. I have always been one of those people who stops to capture a moment that seems significant, whatever it may be. Over the years, I guess phone photography made me miss the idea of being able to use an actual camera and have photos to put into albums. Seeing them only on a computer screen isn’t the same thing. So as a graduation present to myself, two years ago I finally bought my very own DSLR camera; a Canon EOS 1200D. It’s a little beauty that I’m pretty much carrying everywhere nowadays.
This brings me to the question of why I named my blog “Mapped Memoirs”. After days of extensive brainstorming to come up with the perfect name, this one was a winner. Most of my work is concerned with place photography and how I’m able to connect it with my travels, art, architecture, nature and people. I’m a person who is able to find beauty in most things wherever I am in the world, be it a Dublin sunset which I was so fortunate to enjoy nearly everyday whilst living there for two years, to dilapidated walls of an abandoned hotel.
Of course, I’m in no way saying that I’m a professional photographer just because I own a fancy camera. I simply enjoy photography and the people around me have told me multiple times that I have a good eye for detail, so I thought I’ll just give this a shot and see where it leads me. I want “Mapped Memoirs” to be a little hub where I can showcase my photos and share whatever is significant to me with other people. I wanted an incentive to be able to start writing again through the narratives behind my photos and I guess this was the best way to do it.
